CivicSabha 2.0 - Reimagining Public Financial Management through Digital Public Infrastructure and AI
Context:
Digital transformation is reshaping public sector governance, placing public financial management (PFM) systems at the center of this shift. However, despite significant investments, many of these systems remain fragmented and siloed. Emerging technologies like Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and AI offer opportunities to enable interoperability, improve transparency, and strengthen the reliability of public finance data.
CivicDataLab (CDL), Indian Public Finance Collaborative (IPFC) and World Bank's Reimagining Public Finance convened a roundtable as part of CivicSabha 2.0 "Reimagining Public Financial Management through Digital Public Infrastructure and AI", brought together leading experts across government, international organisations, and civil society: Alok Rajan, Gates Foundation, Timothy Stephen Williamson and Alvaro Fernandez from the World Bank and other policymakers, development practitioners, researchers, and civic technology organisations to explore these possibilities. The session aimed to examine how DPI principles and AI tools can strengthen public finance systems while addressing structural challenges related to data fragmentation, institutional trust, and administrative capacity.
